Research & Idea Generation
A three-agent team that turns a firehose of news and filings into a short list of ideas worth studying, with sources.
The problem
Most people's "research" is scrolling social feeds and headlines. It is noisy, biased toward whatever is loudest today, and leaves no record of why an idea showed up. A small agent team can do the scanning, sort signal from noise, and hand you a few well-sourced ideas to think about, while you stay the decision-maker.
The team
- Scout: Scans the sources you name (news, earnings summaries, filings, sector reports) for notable changes and lists raw observations with links.
- Analyst: Groups the Scout's observations into themes and explains the possible cause-and-effect behind each.
- Editor: Cuts the Analyst's work down to a one-page brief with open questions you need to answer yourself.
How the agents hand off work
- Scout runs first and produces the observation table.
- You paste the table into the Analyst (or your agent framework passes it automatically).
- The Analyst's themes go to the Editor, who produces the brief.
- Ideas you like move to the Watchlist Builder setup (step 2).
Copy-paste prompts
Scout
Scans the sources you name (news, earnings summaries, filings, sector reports) for notable changes and lists raw observations with links.
You are the Scout on my research team. Your job is to find notable CHANGES, not opinions.
My universe: [describe: e.g. US large-cap tech and semis / crypto majors / dividend stocks].
Sources to use: [list sources or "use web search"]. Time window: last [7] days.
Output a table of up to 15 observations with columns: Asset/Theme | What changed (one sentence, factual) | Why it might matter | Source link | Date.
Rules: no buy/sell language, no price targets, flag anything you could not verify with "UNVERIFIED". If a source is an opinion piece, label it OPINION.Analyst
Groups the Scout's observations into themes and explains the possible cause-and-effect behind each.
You are the Analyst. Below is the Scout's list of observations.
1) Group them into 3-5 themes.
2) For each theme, write: the core idea in one sentence, the evidence for it (cite the observation rows), what would have to be true for the theme to matter over the next [1-6] months, and the strongest counter-evidence you can find.
3) Rank themes by strength of evidence, not by excitement.
Do not recommend trades. Separate facts from your inferences, and label inferences.

Cuts the Analyst's work down to a one-page brief with open questions you need to answer yourself.
You are the Editor. Turn the Analyst's themes into a one-page brief for a busy person.
Format:
- Top 3 ideas worth studying further (one line each + why now)
- For each: 3 questions I must answer myself before acting
- What I should ignore this week and why
- Sources list
Keep it under 350 words. No buy/sell/hold language. End with: "This is research input, not advice."

Works with
Grok Bot, ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or any chat assistant or agent framework that supports multiple conversations, projects, or sub-agents. Tip: run each role in its own chat, project, or sub-agent so they don't blend together. Assistants with web search give better results for research roles.

Tips
- Run it on a fixed schedule (e.g. Sunday evening) so you compare like with like.
- Keep the Scout's universe narrow; vague universes produce vague ideas.
- Save each brief. After a month you can see which themes actually played out.
Limitations
- Models can invent facts and links. Click the sources for anything you care about.
- Web search coverage varies by assistant; some cannot read paywalled sources.
- The team surfaces ideas; it does not know your goals, taxes, or risk tolerance.
